Firefighters Without Borders

Firefighters around the world battle emergencies everyday which threaten people and the communities they serve. As no two fires or disasters are alike, one thing for sure is that firefighters share a common respect and bond for each other and their brothers and sisters around the world. Sometimes a firefighter or emergency worker pays the highest price while at work; sacrificing their life so that others may live. Firefighters Without Borders is an organization dedicated to helping fire departments get a “hand-up” recovering from difficult situations and to prepare for the next “big one”. Through teamwork and training, a shared hope and confidence is realized and a stronger fire organization and community may be built. This non-profit charity organization pays tribute to all emergency workers who have been lost while performing the job they love. Kevin Bailey was one firefighter with a dream for a strong organization which reaches out whenever there is a need; at home and abroad.

Firefighters Without Borders embarks on a mission to Honduras

Honduras is a country situated in Central America that faces many challenges associated with forest fires, hurricanes, floods, drought and social risk in addition to struggling to deal with more routine responses such as fires, rescues, medical emergencies etc.

Firefighters WIthout Borders has committed to a 3 year program that will see a team of professional firefighters travel to Honduras twice a year to train both the firefighters and community people in various life saving disciplines, and emergency preparedness principles. In addition to teaching people valuable skills, we will be teaching them to be instructors so that they may go back to community and provide training to others. This initiative will be implemented at the national, municipal and community level, and over the course of the program will reach thousands of people both directly and indirectly over the course of the program.

The purpose of the program is to strengthen the ability of the community to deal with a variety of emergency situations. Support will be provided in terms of hands on training, teaching plans, gear and equipment with the ultimate goal being sustainability.

Some of the topics included will be first aid/CPR, hazardous materials, auto extrication, technical rescue, small engine/pump maintenance, firefighting, and disaster preparedness to name a few. We are also proud to be focusing specifically on safety education for school children which is an effective way to teach them some valuable skills while empowering them to be active and confident participant in their community.

All firefighters who work with Firefighters Without Borders pay their own expenses and donate their own personal time while participating in the program, so every dime goes directly where it’s needed.

Our goal is to raise $250 000.00 during the course of our stay in Honduras. We look forward to providing you regular updates on our progress, and we THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
